❓ Datasync requirements
Ruler will require the following variables from your account to set up the event trigger.
Variable | Info |
---|---|
Measurement ID | Please see Googles guide on where to find your measurement id here. |
Google API Secret Key | Your API Secret key can be found by going to GA4 > Admin > Data Streams > Select your stream. Under additional settings select Measurement Protocol API Secrets. You can either copy an API key you already have for that stream or create a new one called Ruler Events. |
⚠️ Understanding GA4 Data Thresholds
Google Analytics 4 applies data thresholds that may limit the visibility of certain events—particularly for low event volumes or when using specific dimensions such as user demographics.
To ensure Ruler events appear consistently in GA4, we recommend switching your reporting identity to device-based tracking.
✅ Recommended: Change GA4 Reporting Identity Setting
To update your settings:
Navigate to the Admin section of your GA4 property
Under Property Settings, select Reporting Identity
Choose Device-based
Click Save
You can switch between identity settings at any time without affecting your data or historical reporting.
By integrating Ruler Analytics with GA4, you gain a complete view of the customer journey, enabling full-funnel attribution and data-driven decision-making.
🤝 Why Use Ruler with GA4?
While we recommend using Ruler Analytics alongside GA4 for a more complete view of user activity, it’s important to note that Ruler is specifically designed to go beyond the limitations of GA4.
Ruler provides:
- Full closed-loop attribution, linking revenue back to individual marketing sources
- Detailed visitor-level journey tracking across multiple sessions and channels
- Integration with your CRM and ad platforms to support offline conversion tracking
- More accurate and granular data, particularly where GA4 applies sampling or data thresholds
Ruler acts as the single source of truth for marketing attribution, offering far more visibility than GA4 alone—especially for B2B or multi-touch journeys.
