Setting up your StackAdapt Ads URL tagging for attribution and reporting drill down

StackAdapt UTM Tagging

Ruler supports StackAdapt as a core advertising channel within your reports.

To provide more granular reporting on StackAdapt campaigns, we recommend adding UTM parameters and StackAdapt dynamic parameters to your landing page URLs. This enables additional reporting dimensions, including campaign-level drill-downs within Ruler.

For the best attribution accuracy and reporting granularity, ensure your StackAdapt landing page URLs include the following parameters.

Supported Parameters

ParameterRecommended Value
utm_sourcestackadapt
utm_mediumpaid
utm_campaign{SA_CAMPAIGN_NAME}
campaign_id{SA_CAMPAIGN_ID}
campaign_group_id{SA_LINE_ITEM_ID}
creative_id{SA_CREATIVE_ID}

Recommended URL Parameters

Add the following parameters to your StackAdapt landing page URL configuration:

utm_source=stackadapt&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign={SA_CAMPAIGN_NAME}&campaign_id={SA_CAMPAIGN_ID}&campaign_group_id={SA_LINE_ITEM_ID}&creative_id={SA_CREATIVE_ID}

Important

Ensure the StackAdapt dynamic parameters remain unchanged, including the curly braces ({}). StackAdapt will automatically replace these values with the relevant campaign, line item, and creative information when an advert is clicked.

Configure URL Parameters in StackAdapt

To add your tracking parameters:

  1. Open StackAdapt Campaign Manager.
  2. Navigate to your campaign setup.
  3. Add the tracking parameters to your landing page URL configuration.
  4. Save your changes.

StackAdapt will populate the dynamic parameters when users click your advertisements.

Testing Your Tracking

Before launching your campaign:

  1. Click an ad preview or live advert.
  2. Confirm the landing page URL contains the expected parameters.
  3. Verify that StackAdapt has populated the dynamic values correctly.

The final URL should include:

  • Campaign name
  • Campaign ID
  • Line item ID
  • Creative ID

Important

Using unsupported parameter names or changing StackAdapt's dynamic parameter format may result in incorrect attribution or limit reporting drill-downs within Ruler.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I already have UTM parameters?

If you already have StackAdapt UTM tracking configured, you do not need to replace your existing setup.

Simply append Ruler's recommended parameters (campaign_id, campaign_group_id, and creative_id) to your existing URL parameters. This will allow Ruler to provide more detailed campaign and creative reporting while preserving your current tracking structure.

What happens if I don't update my UTM tagging?

Ruler can still identify StackAdapt traffic, but without the recommended dynamic parameters your reporting will be limited.

You may see more "(not set)" values and reduced visibility into campaign, line item, and creative-level performance.
