Custom Source Tracking

Ruler includes prebuilt Marketing Sources that automatically track and detect traffic to your website using predefined URL tagging, UTM parameters, referrer rules, and attribution logic.

However, if your website receives traffic from additional channels or sources, we recommend creating Custom Sources so you can report on your traffic data more accurately and granularly.

When are Custom Sources used?

Custom Sources are useful for any non-standard marketing activity, including:

Partner traffic Referral traffic Offline channels where data needs to be manually submitted Outbound campaigns Any digital marketing channel that Ruler does not support out of the box How to create Custom Sources

To create and configure a Custom Source, contact a member of the Ruler team.

Custom Sources can be configured as either:

  • Offline Custom Sources -for manually submitted or offline marketing data
  • Online Custom Sources - using landing page URL rules, such as utm_source= parameters

Online Custom Sources can use any value or parameter included within the landing page URL.
