Phone Number Porting
Process to port numbers from your current provider to Ruler Analytics
If you are looking to move from your current provider entirely to Ruler Analytics, we allow you to port existing telephone numbers from your current provider so you can continue using your established numbers while tracking calls and reporting performance within the Ruler Dashboard.
Before You Start
Please review the following before beginning the porting process. It's worth noting we have many integrations with call tracking providers so a complete switch isn't always required.
Porting Availability
Number porting depends on Ruler Analytics having a porting agreement with the network your current provider uses. While we will make every effort to complete your port, we cannot guarantee that the losing network will approve the request.
What's Involved in a Port?
Step 1: Identify the Numbers to Port
Decide which numbers you would like to transfer to Ruler Analytics.
Ruler can provide new offline tracking numbers, so we recommend only porting numbers that are difficult or impractical to replace. This helps reduce both costs and the overall time required to complete the port.
Step 2: Group Your Numbers
Separate your numbers by type before completing the paperwork. For example: geographic numbers (local area numbers), non-geographic numbers (such as Freephone numbers).
Each number type requires its own Letter of Authority (LOA). A document to share with the networks to initiate the port from one provider to another.
Step 3: Complete the LOA
Ruler Analytics will provide the appropriate LOA templates. You will need to complete the required company and account information, add the relevant numbers to each template, and you may need support from your existing provider here with getting the right details for the numbers you wish to port. Once completed, return the signed LOA to Ruler Analytics.
Step 4: Port Submission
Once we receive the network-level LOA, we will submit the port request to both the gaining and losing networks to begin the transfer.
Step 5: Port Progress
We will keep you informed throughout the process and provide updates as the port progresses.
If the gaining and losing networks do not have a porting agreement in place, it may not be possible to complete the transfer. Where possible, we can check whether a porting agreement exists and review previous porting success rates before submitting the final network-level LOA, helping to identify any potential issues early in the process.
FAQs
Are There Costs Associated with Number Porting?
Yes, there may be charges from both your existing provider and Ruler.
Charges from Your Current Provider
Your existing provider may charge a fee to port numbers away from their service. These charges are determined entirely by your provider, so we recommend confirming any applicable fees with them before beginning the process.
Ruler Analytics Porting Fees
Network operators charge porting fees when numbers are transferred between networks. These costs are passed on to your Ruler Analytics account and include:
- A one-off porting fee
- An ongoing monthly port rental fee for each number
Please note that fees can vary depending on the network the numbers are being ported from. International number porting is charged at different rates, which will be confirmed once the losing network has reviewed the request.
What Are the Average Timescales?
Number ports typically take between 10 and 60 days to complete.
We recommend starting the process as soon as you have signed up with Ruler Analytics. If you have fewer than 30 days remaining on your contract with your current provider, we do not recommend starting the port unless you are able to extend your agreement until the port has been completed.
Are There Any Limits to Port?
Ruler can only begin port initiations once you have a live and active account with us. Only active, live numbers can be ported away from your existing provider, so it is essential that the numbers remain live with your current provider throughout the porting process.
